Using the Purdue Remote Application Server
Although Linux has literally hundreds of thousands of applications, there are still several applications like Adobe Acrobat Professional that have no comparable replacement
on the Linux plaftorm. Fortunately, Purdue provides a remote application service that allows you to have access to several very popular (and sometimes crucial) applications
from your Linux PC.
We have gone ahead and set up your Linux PC with the software necessary to use these remote applications. All you need is a valid Purdue login (not a Structural Biology login).
In the "K Menu" -> Internet -> Remote Apps menu, there are shortcuts to several popular remote applications. These shortuts will allow you to run the selected remote
application without having to go through a web browser. You will have to provide your Purdue (ICS) login and password when prompted.

To make these applications more usable, it is HIGHLY recommended that you do the following to enable loading and saving of files from your Linux PC within these remote Windows applications:
- Open up the ICA Client Manager by going to the K menu -> Internet -> ICA Client

-
From the top menu of the Client window, click Tools->Settings

-
Once the "Settings" window appears, select "Drive Mapping" from the drop down menu

-
Make sure the "Enable Drive Mapping" toggle box at the bottom of this window is enabled and scroll down to the location of the "Z:" entry

-
Click the little toggle box and make sure that the two icons next to it look like this:
-
Type in the location of your home directory. If unsure, open a terminal window and type: echo $HOME

-
Click the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button
You will now be able to load and save files in the remote Windows applications from your local PC by selecting the "Z:" drive from the standard Windows file selector.
Accessing Local Printers From Remote Apps
It's also possible to 'map' local printers so you can print from the remote applications
to a printer here in Structure.
-
Open the file ~/.ICAClient/wfclient.ini with your text editor of choice (nedit, gedit, kate, vi, pico)
*** Do not use a word processor to open the file ***
-
Edit the [WFClient] section to contain the following:
ClientPrinter=On
ClientPrinterList=hp8150
DefaultPrinter=hp8150
DefaultPrinterDriver=HP LaserJet 8150 Series PS
-
If instead you would like to use the HP 4600 Color LaserJet as your default printer in Citrix applications edit the [WFClient] section to contain the following:
ClientPrinter=On
ClientPrinterList=hp4600-color
DefaultPrinter=hp4600-color
DefaultPrinterDriver=HP Color LaserJet 4600 PS
Via Web Browser
You can also execute applications using a web browser by going to the Software Remote website hosted by
