Adding the HP 9650 Color Inkjet Printer in Windows XP

1. First, you must install the correct printer drivers for the HP 9650 Color Inkjet Printer.
   Download this file to your desktop.
2. You should see an icon that looks like the number "7" and the letter "z" on your desktop like this:

   

3. Double click this icon. A dialog will pop up asking you where you would like to extract the files to.
4. Click the button with the "..." on it on the far left:

   

5. Select "Desktop" and click "Ok"

   

6. Click the "Extract" button and the printer drivers will be extracted into an appropriately named folder on your desktop:

Once you have extracted the printer drivers, you are ready to install the printers onto your PC.

1. Click on the Start menu and go to the control panel:

   

2. Open up the Control Panel section "Printers and Faxes"

   

3. Double click on the "Add Printer" icon

   

4. The "Add Printer Wizard" will start up. Select the option to add "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer"

   

5. Next, select the "Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network:" option in the dialog.
   In the "URL:" text field enter:
   http://printers.bio.purdue.edu:631/printers/hp9650

   

6. The wizard will now bring up a dialog asking you to select your printer. Do not select any of the printers that are listed. Instead, click on the "Have Disk..." button.

   

7. A window labelled "Install from Disk" will appear. Click the "Browse..." button

   

8. Navigate to your desktop and then to the location of the printer drivers you extracted in the first part of this instruction.
   The folder will be named "HP2300_Printer_Drivers"
   Insider that folder double click the file named "hpf9600k".

   

9. A dialog will appear asking you to select which printer model you would like to use. Select "hp deskjet 9600 series".

   

10. Click next and the following "Ok" buttons and you will now be able to print to this printer.
